The South is prone to long months of hot summers, but not freezing temperatures in its few months of winter! Temperatures of late have been as low as 18 degrees, compared to average lows in the 30's for this season. I happen to love winter scenes, and was elated to find these frozen images around town recently.
These icy sculptures were taken at The Flower Store in Ogletree Village in Auburn, and by a creek on Rockybrook Road in Opelika. The 3-tiered frozen fountain reminds me of a winter wedding cake!
Enjoying the coolness and the surprises before Spring...

That fountain is a thing of beauty. Yes... what's up with the temperatures? I don't know if I've ever seen the south have such a winter. (this... mostly seen from a distance these days.)
It has been a brutal Winter here in Mass as well. I am so looking forward to Spring!
Very cool, FREEZING photos Mara. I love this time of year BTW.
Chuck - I used to live in the Colorado mountans, and loved walking in the winter and was so inspired with the frozen beauty and drifts of dreams in the soft stillness...so I love the memories that the rare, truly winter day or two brings to me here in Alabama.
Bill - I know MA is brutal...I have nothing to complain about! Sending warm thoughts from AL...Hang in there!
Gary - yes, nothing like an occasional day on ice to say CHEERS! to... I think I'm living in the wrong state for my cooler state of mind! LOL
This is gorgeous but seems sorta odd for Auburn! Bring on Spring!
WOW...it freezes in Alabama about as often as it does here in Austin, Texas. Actually I enjoy the few days when it's cold enough to build a fire in the fireplace (even if I have to turn on the AC)!
Hi Mara,
I just saw this post of yours and had to comment. These photos are great! I have family in Auburn, but haven't talked to them in awhile. So, I had no idea it had been getting that cold there. But I love these photos. : )
Thanks for sharing.

You really do a great job with your pictures and layouts.
