"A JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES BEGINS WITH A SINGLE STEP"

Walking... everyone applauds your very first steps. It's a grand achievement... a pivotal point in your developmental history. The world looks different now, after schlepping around like a snake and then on all-fours. Now you can explore your world in new ways. Walking...a primal progression, and STILL a daily opportunity. Connect with the land where you live...go on "a walkabout"... anticipate the journey as the miles become s-miles.

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday mornings in Auburn, Alabama, THE AUBURN STRIDE WALKERS CLUB ventures out together on the various city walking trails. The monthly schedule is always available at http://www.auburnalabama.org/, and I'm posting the current one here. Begin walking today, and, before you know it, you'll have gone the extra mile!

Mara:  That was a nice blog.  I should walk, I should go to the gym, I should lose weight, I should give out 10 cards a day..........I guess I'm busy doing what I shouldn't do.

Thanks, Barbara. (Pics are of my grandson, Lyric).

Donna, DITTO!!! I used to walk everyday with my dog, until she went missing last November--- and I haven't walked since! I tell myself that I just can't go without her, but I think it's become an excuse. Showing property is a real workout for me--- so I "count" all those steps and, in my mind, I AM exercising! LOL. Get yourself one of those $10 step counters from Target, and you'll be amazed at how many steps you really take a day, just doing your work--- and you'll feel very proud of yourself :-)

p.s. Donna - those 10 cards a day? Impossible for some of us... do your 10 blog comments per day and it helps your google points to drive consumers to your site. I've found this to be efficient and effective.

Mara, I find that walking becomes such a pleasant habit, that your body misses doing it when your schedule doesn't permit the regular walk.

Charlie - thanks for walking by.

Brian - so true...my body misses the walking but my heart misses my dog... i'm stuck in a quandry!

Mara- My grandkids said your grandson is cute....:)  And I like how you said everything starts with one step.  Walking is so important......and I think I will follow this and start....with one step :)

Mara~ What a nice blog and the analogy of the "first steps" is a great way to get me going. Back to the treadmill tomorrow, but hopefully the trails by the weekend

Mara, I'm a big runner (and walker) and there is nothing better for your frame of mind and something to let you unwind. A 30 minute walk is good for the soul. I am convinced of it. Glad to see the Auburn area is so well organized with it.

Mara, I just got a little pedometer so I can rack up steps walking the dog!  Cute little guy in the photos!

Good morning Mara,
With the recent rise in the price of fuel, I think more people might be walking or biking!  Yes, walking is great for the body, soul and mind.

I love walking... it's amazing how a quick jaunt into the cool evening can clear my head and allow me to solve problems that seem to work their way out during a tranquil walk.
