EARTH DAY - Auburn, Alabama

It's been nearly 40 years since the first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970. Founded by Senator Gaylord Nelson, it was established as a time for communities the world over, to recognize our deeper responsibility by minding our ways in caring for our natural resources. It was intended as a global reminder that The Earth is, essentially, our home... so let's all pitch in and do our part to promote clean and economical uses of energy and preserve our irreplaceable, natural resources. I don't think it's enough to simply think about recycling trash. It might be more to think about the freedoms we have here in this country to make the choices and make a difference--- even to the point of recycling some of our habitual ways of thinking. While recycling office equipment, plastics, glass and paper may seem insignificant on an individual level, I've observed that it can develop an increased sense of observation and listening to daily life, conversations and situations. I've observed the subtle growth that can expand a person's or a community's capacity to find peaceable resolutions.

In a land and country that continues to fight long and hard for its freedoms, we can learn that pursuits, even when driven by desperation, are optimized with opportunity--- an ever-present resource, especially in America. I suppose that is a miracle of the human quest, We just never know how close we might be to the next opportunity... to knowing a difference, to making a difference, to 'being' the difference.  "In my Father's house are many mansions"... In my Mother's heart are many doors... OPPORTUNITY IS KNOCKING...open a door today, for Mother Earth, for the world we live in.

Mara, I love you!  This is beautiful!  Our world is a beautiful place.  Thanks for the reminder.  You reminded me of something.  I used to tease my former Pastor, because I have a potty mouth and he would kid that I was going to hell in a handbasket.  I always told him that Jesus said His Father's house has many rooms and that I was getting one... maybe not one with a view or central air, but I was getting one all the same!

Hi Mara, those Alabama pines are very stately and beautiful in that stand of trees. Happy Earth Day.

Fredyt3 - Thanks for stopping by here

Susan - I loved seeing this in such a different way last Saturnday, so near my house! It just transported me...to root children and gnomes and woodland creatures...I sort of wanted to just morph myself LOL! that's really cute how you thought about your "Father's" house...which, for some reason, is reminding me of a cartoon of Noah's ark with a pair of woodpeckers on board---not a smart idea! xox

Evelyn - Hello! I'm glad there is, at least, this one day that gives us the opportunity to really be reminded and think about our responsibility for the gift of the earth. thanks for stopping by!

Gary - Sometimes I think I love trees so much and that is why I seem to be somewhat addicted to paper...stacks of paper all around me! This looked like a perfect "forest" that is really right in the middle of businesses and a school and apartments. I love it! ;-)
