Since the tradition began in the 1940's, the iconic oak tree at the infamous Toomers Corner has been the centerpiece of every victory party in the streets, as fans flocked its branches with toilet paper, celebrating winning games.
The tree at Toomer's Corner has been tragically poisoned.
While steps have been taken to save this and other oak trees that were poisioned with an herbicide (known Spike 80DF), fans are grieving for this member of the community, known as the tree at Toomers Corner, and praying for a miracle.
Will health be restored?
Will fans want to take revenge?
The WAR EAGLE spirit of the Auburn community for it's athletes and, in particular, its team of football champions, the Auburn Tigers, is deeply rooted in pride and good sportsmanship.
University President Jay Gogue stated: "...we should live up to the example we set in becoming national champions and the beliefs expressed in our Auburn Creed. Individuals act alone, not on behalf of anyone or any place, and all universities are vulnerable to and condemn such reprehensible acts."
